Charles Martinet takes off his red hat.
The voice actor for Super Mario will be stepping away from the role after over 30 years of service.
Fans already suspected this.
Hamburg – For over 30 years,
Charles Martinet
lent his incomparably energetic voice to none other than Super Mario.
In addition to the Italian plumber, Martinet also dubbed the characters
Luigi
,
Wario
and
Waluigi
.
The American also took on several roles in the
Super Mario Bros. film
.
But that's over now.
As Nintendo announced via Twitter, Martinet will be withdrawing from now on and will only appear as a Mario ambassador.
A fan theory that was initially laughed at predicted this back in June.

Super Mario: Charles Martinet will no longer voice the Italian plumber
What happened?
Nintendo announced briefly and painlessly via Twitter that Charles Martinet would be taking off his red cap and would no longer lend his voice to Super Mario from now on.
Instead, the voice actor would have a new task: As a Mario ambassador, he would continue to travel the world and meet fans of the Italian plumber.
At a later date, Nintendo also plans to publish
a joint greeting from Martinet and Mario inventor
Shigeru Miyamoto .
The now 67-year-old Martinet has often commented in the past that the strange timbres of the many Nintendo characters put a lot of strain on his voice during long recording sessions.

Fans weren't sure if the real Super Mario was actually talking to them in the colorful trailer.
Also the first trailer for
Wario Ware: Move it!
made many in the community suspicious -
Charles Martinet doesn't speak that!

However, the Japanese company has not yet revealed who is speaking in the games.
A successor to Charles Martinet has not yet been presented.
