A Lidl customer wants to know whether he can take crumbs left on the baking shelf with him.

His question caused a lively discussion on the Internet.

Munich – There are often leftovers on baking shelves and counters that end up in the trash can at the end of the day due to a lack of freshness.

But what is the situation with crumbs left behind in supermarkets and discount stores - such as pumpkin seeds?

A Lidl customer asked himself this question while shopping and published his concern on the Reddit platform.

Lidl customer puzzles over pumpkin seeds on the baking shelf – should you take them with you or not?

The Lidl customer published the post under the “Finance” subreddit – which at first glance raises questions.

But ultimately his concern is about saving.

One user commented: “Ok, that was enough finances for me.” Specifically, the author of the Reddit post asked: “Can you collect the pumpkin seeds and just take them with you?” He presumably meant them for free.

And showed a picture of several compartments on the baking shelf of a Lidl branch.

They were filled with plenty of pumpkin seeds, which had probably fallen from the previously purchased baked goods.

Users seemed to disagree.

While some claimed that this was a case of theft, others explained that he could pocket the pumpkin seeds since they would be thrown away anyway.

“Buy a pumpkin seed roll and throw as many of the things as you want into the bag, if it's not 500 grams, no one will care,” suggested one.

A request from

to Lidl has so far remained unanswered.

However, a user, who according to his own statements was a former Lidl employee, spoke up in the comment column.

“You can just pull out the black sheets and then pour them into a bread bag,” he claimed.

This is actually doing the employees a favor because they have to clean the sheets.

“Are you Swabian by any chance?” – Reactions to a Lidl customer’s savings question are mixed

However, not all comments on the post were helpful in answering the creator's question.

Some Reddit users complained that it was unhygienic to take the pumpkin seeds from the baking shelf.

One person wrote that he was allowed to collect them and added ironically: “You’re welcome to lick them straight off.” Another said: “You don’t want the pumpkin seeds.”

Another part of the users made fun of the Lidl customer's concern.

One comment states that the pigeons in the park are also free.

A Reddit user asked ironically whether the author of the post happened to be Swabian.

After all, people in Germany have always been said to have a penchant for great thrift.

It was often read: “Discounters hate this trick.” Whether Lidl or other discounters really hate such promotions remains to be seen.

Although supermarkets and discounters always pay attention to freshness, it can happen that unappetizing products end up on the shelves.

A Lidl customer once made a disgusting discovery: a package of toast bread that was offered was already moldy.

When Kaufland tried to save old food, the offer backfired in one case.
