The TikToker lives in his apartment - without paying a cent for his electricity.

Now he fears a high additional payment.

Munich – If you are moving, there are a few things to consider.

Starting with the re-registration, which must be done within 14 days, to registering the broadcasting fee (here are reasons why we should never abolish it).

Another important item on the moving to-do list: Register the electricity.

But that's exactly what Paul Bunne (@paulbunne) seems to have forgotten.

He reports in a video on TikTok that he has been living in his apartment for three years.

However, he did not pay for electricity during the entire time.

He always thought this was included in his rent.

Didn't pay electricity for three years

“Why doesn’t anyone tell you that when you move into a new apartment you have to register for electricity yourself?” complains the TikToker.

In the comments, users are wondering why the electricity wasn't turned off long ago if it wasn't paid for.

One user explains: “I work for an energy supplier.

It may be that electricity runs through your landlord!

It's best to clarify this with him - otherwise you'll be in primary care."

As a rule, the electricity costs are not covered by the rent, but the electricity must be registered separately and therefore paid for.

The rent usually only includes the costs for (waste) water and heating - not for electricity.

Is there a risk of a high additional payment now?

– “Expect 3000 euros”

Some users, like Paul, are surprised that electricity usually has to be registered separately.

“I just found out from social media that you pay extra for electricity and I'm wondering why you don't learn something like that in school.” But not all users react to the video with understanding: “Naive or stupid... I'm not sure certainly..."

In his video, the TikToker asks himself how much he will now have to pay in electricity costs.

One user gives an assessment: “Expect an additional payment of around 3,000 euros”.

TikTok community is trying to help

Instead of asking the landlord whether electricity is included in the rent, Paul chooses a different approach.

In an update video he reports that he has now searched for electricity providers on a comparison portal.

“I acted like I wanted to change electricity provider.

And actually the new electricity provider then writes to the old electricity provider and they then work it out between themselves,” he explains.

“I could imagine that they would sort this out among themselves and then write to me: Oh, you haven’t paid for a while.”

But the users agree: First contact the landlord to see whether electricity is included in the rent.

If this is not the case, the TikTok community recommends checking with your primary care provider.
