“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and friend.
» It is with these words posted Sunday February 25 on social networks that those close to Kenneth Mitchell announced the death of the latter at the age of 49.
The actor from Toronto (Canada) died on Saturday after years of battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Charcot disease, diagnosed in 2018.

“For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of terrible ordeals related to ALS.
And in true Ken fashion, he managed to rise above everyone with grace and commitment, to live a full and joyful life in every moment,” the statement read.
“He lived by the principle that every day is a gift and that we never walk alone.

Last August, on the occasion of his fifth year of treatment, the father published a poignant message on social networks in which he spoke of an “absolutely horrible” illness.
“Yet despite all the suffering, there is so much to be grateful for.
Especially the little joys, resilience and hope for a tomorrow,” he wrote.

He continued to tour despite his illness
After studying landscape design, Kenneth Mitchell quickly turned to cinema.
He had small guest roles in famous series such as "Grey's Anatomy", "CSI: Miami", "Criminal Minds", "Mentalist", or even "NCIS", but it was with his role in “Star Trek: Discovery” (2017-2020) as his fame explodes.
In this series, he played several characters, including the scientist Aurellio who traveled in a flying chair when the actor was already ill.
In 2022, the series paid tribute to him by introducing the USS Mitchell spaceship, named in his honor.
He is also known for playing the role of Carol Danvers' father in the film "Captain Marvel" (2019).
Kenneth Mitchell leaves behind a wife, actress Susan May Pratt, and two children, Lillah and Kallum, born in 2007 and 2012 respectively.
