Illegal parking can be extremely expensive for drivers.

In Austria, one company was the cause of particularly high fines - until now.

Vienna – Whether in Germany or Austria: If illegal parking is caught, they have to pay a sometimes hefty fine.

However, due to a real wave of warnings from the company “ZUPF DI”, the Supreme Court had to intervene.

Decision of the Supreme Court: Company charges excessive fines for illegal parking

Most drivers have probably had to accept and pay a fine of 30 euros for illegal parking.

However, the ZUPF DI company sent warnings all over Austria, sometimes amounting to 400 euros.

Apparently it wasn't necessarily a matter of gross negligence, such as parking in a hospital driveway.

Some drivers are said to have expensive notices for turning around or briefly stopping in parking spaces, as

writes, among others.

Those who park illegally must expect fines.

A company in Vienna even sent fines of up to 400 euros to drivers.

ZUPF DI themselves write on their website that they are committed to people's property, regardless of whether "the private parking space is blocked or the access is blocked." Anyone who uses the service can secure a commission of 200 euros per successful case.

This should now end, as the Supreme Court (OGH) informed.

"In its decision, the Supreme Court states that the ineffectiveness of the granting of ownership to ZUPF DI is evident, that ZUPF DI's warnings represent an interference with the lawyers' monopoly of representation and that the alleged breach of law by ZUPF DI is therefore not justifiable under competition law," says the Supreme Court.

According to a court order: the company should no longer hand out high fines to drivers

Many of those affected paid the fines imposed before the Supreme Court got involved: “I'm a single mother, I don't have much money anyway and now I have to pay 400 euros for one minute,” a woman

told

The parking lot owners who commissioned ZUPF DI are also likely to face legal consequences after the decision: “In conscious and intentional cooperation with ZUPF DI, they gained a financial advantage,” wrote the Supreme Court.

The ZUPF DI company made the following statement after the OGH's decision: "We respect the OGH's decision - however, this was made in the course of a so-called security procedure, therefore the decision does not represent a final decision in a main proceeding," it says on its website .

According to the company's own information on its homepage, it acts in a legally secure manner, which is why the company wants to remain active for its existing customers.

ZUPF DI emphasizes that it will agree on a solution with the other side, but will continue to process the matter as usual.
