Prysmian has finalized the contract relating to the order worth approximately 1.9 billion euros awarded by Eastern Green Link 2 Limited, a joint venture between Ssen Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission plc, owners of the electricity transmission systems in Great Britain.
As part of the contract, Prysmian will supply an important high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable system for the development of the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) network which will connect Scotland and England.
The EGL2 link will be crucial for the transmission of electricity between Scotland and England and will be one of the first cable systems commissioned in the UK to use 525 kV (kilovolt) high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology with insulation extruded in XLPE.
Prysmian will be responsible for the development, production, installation, testing and commissioning of the HVDC cable system, whose transmission capacity will be equal to 2 gigawatts.
