The Protected Geographical Indication Cipolla Rossa di Tropea Calabria generates 60 million in consumer value.
This was made by the Csqa certification body on the occasion of the three-year renewal of the authorization to carry out checks on the product by the Central Inspectorate for Quality Protection and Fraud Repression (Icqrf).
Csqa reports that the Red Onion of Tropea can now count on a supply chain of 20 thousand tons of certified production, of which approximately 20% destined for transformation and 170 operators.
"In the era of artificial intelligence, even in the delicate phase of controls, it is necessary to try to guarantee - states Giuseppe Laria, president of the Protection Consortium - timeliness and precision in the collection of certification, production and sales data. Thanks to Csqa's commitment we will have the immediate computerization, on an online platform, of the various operations relating to the control system will soon be available. It will therefore be possible to have access in real time, for each entity operating in the PGI area, of the certified quantities in the production and sales phase".
