Rome withdraws its candidacy to host the 2027 World Athletics Championships. Fidal has chosen to withdraw, with a letter sent to the president of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, and in copy to the chairman of the Evaluation Commission, the Finnish Antti Pihlakoski.
The decision is consequent to the "acknowledgment of the absence of the minimum requirements to participate in the comparison"
World Athletics' decision on the 2027 World Cup is expected today.
Rome's candidacy was presented to the international federation five days ago, but Fidal on the occasion underlined that "a piece of primary importance" was missing from the Government's letter of guarantee, namely the coverage of the economic intervention, to the extent of 85 of the 130 million euros of the expected budget.
