The European Chamber has given the definitive green light to the reform of the EU rules regulating the protection of Geographical Indications (GIs) for wine, alcoholic beverages and agricultural products.

The new regulation, whose rapporteur was the MEP Paolo De Castro, passed with 520 votes in favour, 19 against and 64 abstentions and also contains measures to protect Geographical Indications online, and give greater powers to producers by simplifying the GI registration process .


    A further milestone in defense of our excellence was achieved today with the vote in Europe on the approval of the reform of the Geographical Indications system". Thus the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, comments on the EP's vote.
