More than 20 thousand people, according to Greek police estimates, gathered in the center of Athens to commemorate the first anniversary of the Tebi railway accident and demand justice for the 57 victims.
A similar demonstration is underway in Thessaloniki, in which more than 10 thousand people are participating, according to police estimates.
A 24-hour general strike called by the country's main trade unions is currently underway to demand justice for the accident.
At the site of the tragedy, in Tebi, near Larissa, more than a thousand people and many relatives of the victims gathered to lay flowers in front of the photos of those who lost their lives a year ago.
In Thessaloniki there were clashes between demonstrators and the police. According to Kathimerini, who reports information from a local newspaper, some demonstrators who arrived in front of the headquarters of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) in Thessaloniki, threw paint, stones and Molotov cocktails at the riot police deployed in protection of the building.
The police responded with smoke bombs and stun grenades and pushed the demonstrators back towards the city center.
