The condemnation of dissident Oleg Orlov in Russia is an attempt by Putin to "silence" critics.
The Nobel Committee says so.
A Moscow court yesterday sentenced the historic dissident Oleg Orlov, former co-president of the Memorial foundation which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022, to two and a half years of imprisonment. The charge he was found guilty of is "discrediting" the armed forces , for his criticism of the so-called 'special military operation' in Ukraine.
The European Union is "shocked" by the judges' decision, said the High Representative for Common Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, for whom Orlov "did not commit any crime".
Borrell also once again asked Moscow for "the immediate and unconditional release" of all political prisoners.
