You don't give a damn about the name, do you?

Have you ever wondered how different foods got their names?

This is still quite obvious with the kidney bean.

It looks very similar to a human kidney, which is called “kidney” in English.

But what about chickpeas?

Do you have to giggle after eating it and hence the unusual name?

That would be nice, but as so often the name comes from Latin.

There is the word for pea: “Cicer”, which in Old High German then became “kihhira” and at some point became chickpea.

So chickpea translates to “pea pea”, which might make some people giggle.



So now open the cans and the colorful bean salad with avocado is ready.

That's how it's done:

You need these ingredients:

  • Dressing:

  • 4 tbsp olive oil

  • 5 tbsp lime juice

  • 2 tbsp agave syrup

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • 1 tsp salt

  • Salad:

  • 250 g red pepper, diced

  • 250 g chickpeas, drained 

  • 250 g kidney beans, drained

  • 280 g corn, drained

  • 150g red onions, diced

  • 200 g cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 250g avocado, diced

  • 40 g parsley, chopped

The preparation is very easy:

  • For the dressing:

    mix all the ingredients together and season with salt and pepper.

  • For the salad:

    Place peppers, chickpeas, kidney beans, corn, onions, tomatoes and avocado in a large bowl.

    Add the dressing and chopped parsley and mix everything well.

  • Bread goes well with it.

  • Clean up!
