"We are faced with a meteorological event that weighs heavily due to its characteristics, and should be cataloged in the history of the Veneto as a major flood event, but Vicenza was saved by the lamination basins".

This was stated by the president of Veneto

Luca Zaia

, taking stock of the rains of the last few days.

"The rainfall data - he added - are comparable to Vaia and the great flood of 2010. if there were no works we were facing another disaster".

The flood in Vicenza also affected the entire neighborhood around the

Romeo Menti stadium, which ended up under water

.

Checks are currently underway to assess the damage caused by the water that has penetrated the plant, where the company's headquarters and offices are also located.

From an initial inspection, the playing field, which is higher since it was rebuilt, was not found to be flooded: the water only affected the flanks.

However, any damage to electrical, LED and audio systems should be assessed.

After a night of fear, the level of the Bacchiglione river, which runs through the historic center of Vicenza and which flooded in November 2010, is slowly falling.

In the last reading carried out at 11.30, in the rain gauge located on Ponte degli Angeli, a few steps from the Olympic Theatre, the level was exactly 4.98 metres, after a maximum of almost 5 and a half meters recorded during the night.

It was precisely the sudden growth of the Bacchiglione that convinced the Civil Engineers to open the Caldogno (Vicenza) rolling basin around 4 am. Since then the level has slowly dropped.

According to what was explained by the mayor of Vicenza Giacomo Possamai in a video message recorded at 5 am after a meeting of the Coc "the alarm continues: the ring road is in fact closed due to flooding as are numerous roads in the city".

"We ask everyone to limit their movements - the mayor's appeal - to allow rescue and civil protection interventions".

The level of the Retrone river is worrying, having overflowed in several places.

At the moment, rail traffic remains closed

on the stretch between Vicenza and Padua, interrupted since yesterday afternoon at 4pm

.

The lines from Vicenza to Treviso and Schio (Vicenza) are also interrupted.

Severe inconvenience for commuters, for whom numerous bus services have been activated.

At the moment the high speed is diverted via Bologna, while regional trains connect Padua and Verona bypassing Vicenza and using the line to Monselice.

Technical inspections are underway to understand the situation between Vicenza and Padua.

Bonaccini: 'Let's hope everything passes without consequences'

In Emilia-Romagna, an "orange alert" was issued yesterday for a possible risk of "landslides, let's hope that everything passes without consequences. Given that we have already had plenty of consequences" at the time of last May's flood.

The president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, said this while speaking on the 'Start' program on Sky Tg 24.

Two bridges over the Secchia in the Modena area remain closed

The two bridges over the Secchia river closed to traffic last night in the Modena area still remain closed as a precaution: the Ponte Alto in Modena and the Uccellino bridge between Modena and Soliera.

The river level - explains the Administration of the Emilian city - is decreasing and the flood peak, after having reached 9.17 meters at Ponte Alto around 5 am, is slowly passing through the Modena area.

The two infrastructures will be reopened to traffic as soon as the river has fallen below threshold 2 which corresponds to 8 meters at Ponte Alto.

The via Curtaton bridge over the Tiepido torrent and the Navicello Vecchio bridge over the Panaro along the branch of provincial road 255 also remain closed. The Orange alert for hydraulic criticality, issued by the regional safety agency, is in force throughout the day. territorial and civil protection.

Municipal, provincial and Aipo technicians, Civil Protection volunteers and, in monitoring traffic, local police operators are involved in monitoring the Modena hydraulic node, which also includes the Panaro river area.

The coordination of the interventions is entrusted to the Coc, the municipal operations centre.

For civil protection, the single integrated operations room in Marzaglia is active.
