Eurocamara, 'Putin is responsible for Navalny's death'

Vladimir Putin personally bears criminal and political responsibility for the death of his strongest opponent: Alexei Navalny.

The European Chamber says so in a resolution approved with 506 votes in favour, 9 against and 32 abstentions.

The Russian people, however, should not be confused with the "warmongering, autocratic and kleptocratic regime of the Kremlin", the text explains.

MEPs call on Member States to step up their efforts to find possible ways to free those suffering from detention and repression, including the option of possible prisoner exchanges.

Vucic, on Navalny we are not aligned with the EU with accusations against Putin

Serbia has not aligned itself with the positions of the EU, which holds Russian President Vladimir Putin responsible for the death of Alexei Navalny.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said this today.

"So far we have not aligned ourselves on this issue, we have not done so, I would have been surprised otherwise", said Vucic responding to journalists in Tirana, where he is participating in the summit on the European growth plan for the Western Balkans.

"If you think that this is a tragedy and a reason to attack us, I don't think so. Instead, I think it is very important that Serbia carries out an autonomous and independent policy, with case-by-case evaluation," the president added.

According to him, Serbia's degree of alignment with EU acts and decisions is currently around 64%.

And referring to a journalist's claims that Belgrade has a 'hybrid position' regarding Russia and the armed conflict with Ukraine - on the one hand condemning Russian intervention and on the other not adhering to sanctions against Moscow - Vucic said that Serbia's is not a hybrid position but the clear position of a free country that makes its decisions alone, in the interests of the state and its people.

Serbia, he noted, has been under sanctions for almost a decade in the past and knows very well how this all works.

"We have taken our position, which is not easy, and is unique in Europe. And we are very proud of this," Vucic said.

Serbia, he said, had not signed any agreement on cooperation on weapons and ammunition with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at yesterday's Ukraine-Balkans summit in the Albanian capital.

"No, we have not signed any agreement. We support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and they support the territorial integrity of Serbia. And for this we are very grateful. Both countries support the dictates of the UN Charter and the resolutions of the Security Council, which are the basis of international law," Vucic said.
