Emilia-Romagna moves forward on the end of life and strengthens the resolution with which it establishes that it is the Regional Committee for Ethics in the Clinic (Corec) that gives an opinion on requests for medically assisted suicide by those who find themselves in the foreseen conditions by the Constitutional Court.
The Territorial Ethics Committees (CET) recalled by the National Bioethics Committee as a possible body called upon to express themselves, explains the Region, are not a necessary choice "where specific bodies for clinical ethics exist, as happens in Emilia-Romagna".
The Council approved an ad hoc supplementary act which explains this.
We respect Court pending national law
"While waiting for a national law for a topic of such great importance and sensitivity, we confirm our commitment to implement what was requested by the High Court".
Thus Raffaele Donini, regional councilor for health in Emilia-Romagna, regarding the new supplementary act of the council on the resolution on the end of life.
"We have strengthened the reasons, focusing on all the legal steps in support of this position - he explains - We remember that the Regions are called upon to apply what was established by the Court. It was necessary to put the healthcare system in a position to fulfill this obligation in the best possible way , as also requested by the Ministry of Health".
The ruling to which he refers is number 242 of 2019 of the Constitutional Court on the end of life.
