Fear and shock among the Amish who live in Pennsylvania, the American state that hosts the largest number of members of the community, after the murder of a 23-year-old pregnant woman in Spartansburg.
The young woman, Rebekah Byler, was found dead by the police in the house in the city, inhabited almost exclusively by Amish.
"These things don't happen here, we're shocked," Charleen Hajec, a pharmacist born and raised in Spartansburg, told ABC news.
"We are evaluating all leads", the police declared, but at the moment the death of the 23-year-old remains a mystery.
The victim was six months pregnant and her two young children were at home when officers found her body, while her husband was outside.
Some neighbors said they saw a red jeep entering and leaving the driveway of the house, a singular circumstance since the Amish only travel in horse-drawn carriages, even on state highways.
