The fishermen of Anzio proclaim a state of agitation: navigation in the port is not safe.
Two years after the last excavation of the access channel, the situation has become unsustainable due to siltation.
This was reported by the 'Concordia' and 'Fanciulla d'Anzio' cooperatives of the Lazio city, two fundamental entities for the local economy which have a total of 22 large fishing boats and 30 small fishing boats.
"The safety conditions of the access channel, in fact, are no longer there and the risk of accidents is increasingly higher."
For this reason they are strongly aiming for the urgent convening of a discussion table in the Region which has been requested for some time but without having received any response.
"Today the safety of the crews is not guaranteed", the two cooperatives say, reporting that "a fishing vessel from our flotilla with 5 people on board remained stranded while trying to leave the port basin and risked capsizing. Fortunately the intervention of other fishermen made it possible to avoid the tragedy and bring the boat back to the dock after 4 hours of emergency. Today went well, but we cannot work in these conditions".
.A now unmanageable situation, in the face of which the cooperatives aim to open a table with the Municipality, Port Authority, Lazio Region and Capo d'Anzio to have guarantees that the safety of navigation within the port is permanent". The urgent excavation intervention that the Municipality of Anzio is planning, the cooperatives agree, "is certainly important, but it does not solve the problems linked to the safety of navigation in the port.
In fact, in a few months we risk finding ourselves in the same critical conditions linked to the cover-up.
