The Rome-Pescara is "a work of strategic importance for two Regions but for the whole of Central Italy, because it will allow us to contribute to bridging the infrastructural gap that exists today between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic".
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this while speaking at CIPESS and announcing that "the Government has
identified the resources necessary for the realization of the work
. Today we are allocating those resources, from the 2021-2027 Development and Cohesion Fund. We are covering all the financing needed (620 million, ed.) and we also ensure additional coverage of 100 million, which should have been awarded by 2023".
"In the PNRR - explained Meloni - 620 million euros were foreseen for this work. As part of the revision of the Plan we, however, took note of the impossibility of
completing the work in the manner and within the foreseen times.
A circumstance which would have led to losing those resources and giving up on the completion of a strategic work. Therefore - he added, thanking the work of Fitto and Salvini - we had to remove the financing for Rome-Pescara from the PNRR and identify alternative sources to ensure the completion of the work" .
Going into more detail, Meloni observed that "today the CIPESS will decide on a
total loan of 720 million euros,
which are added to the 231 million euros that are paid by the Indifferable Works Fund, against a total cost of 951 million euros for lots 1 and 2 of the Rome-Pescara line ("Doubling of the Interporto d'Abruzzo-Manoppello-Scafa routes"). Therefore, today we are securing a strategic work, we are financing it in full, also ensuring additional resources, and we are committed to realize it. In the next few days - he concluded -, CIPESS will have to adopt all the necessary actions to assign these resources and proceed quickly with the creation of the infrastructure".
"Today's CIPESS meeting is an important stage in the Government's action. I say this because since we took office we have set ourselves a clear objective: to use public investments as a fundamental lever for the development of the Nation, to spend resources well and quickly avoiding waste and inefficiencies, and
thus creating infrastructures that have been awaited for decades
and which will remain for our children and will produce well-being and lasting growth".
Meloni said this, speaking during the Cipess meeting.
"It is one of the figures of this Government - he underlined -, and today's CIPESS meeting adds an extra piece to this long-term strategy".
On the agenda, in addition to the financing of the Rome-Pescara, Meloni recalled, there is also "the 2014-2020 complementary operational program of the Abruzzo Region. We are talking about over 146 million euros which will be used to intervene in various strategic sectors" , he explained.
"These include: research and development, innovation, environmental protection and risk prevention and management, competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, employment, vocational education and training and strengthening administrative capacity. We should be very proud of the work we have done. They are results that we have sought with great determination to carry out
fundamental works for the nation
."
