The Spanish Supreme Court has unanimously decided to open an investigation into the former Catalan president and MEP Carles Puigdemont and the former Catalan MP Ruben Wagensberg, assuming the crime of terrorism in the Tsunami case, relating to the violent protests of the independence platform in 2019, in the aftermath of the convictions of the Talan independence leaders.
We learn this from judicial sources cited by national television RTV.
The Supreme Court's decision to declare itself competent and to investigate Carles Puigdemont and Ruben Wagensberg, currently MEPs, for the crime of terrorism in relation to the Tsunami Democratic protests was opposed by the Prosecutor's Office of the high court of the Audiencia Nacional.
According to the magistrates of the Supreme Court, "it is necessary and pertinent that they are called to the proceedings, in order to be considered as suspects, with all the rights and guarantees provided for in our legal system. Investigation actions that cannot be carried out by the investigating judge, but only by this Criminal Court , as these are deputies covered by immunity", is said in the order notified today to the interested parties, reproduced by La Vanguardia.
