Serghei Sokolov, the editor of Novaya Gazeta, a banned Russian independent newspaper, was arrested.
The same newspaper reports this, specifying that Sokolov was taken to a police station, where a report was drawn up in which he is accused of "discrediting" the armed forces.
Sokolov was officially appointed editor of Novaya Gazeta in September 2023, following the resignation of Nobel Peace Prize winner Dmitry Muratov, who had been designated a 'foreign agent' by Russian authorities.
