When the bouquet has faded, it usually ends up in organic or residual waste.
That's not always true.
If you want to dispose of the bouquet correctly, you have to take a closer look.
Unfortunately, the joy of a bouquet of flowers is short-lived.
As beautiful as the colorful bouquets are to look at, they usually don't live longer than a week.
When the flowers have withered, the question arises as to how best to dispose of the bouquet.
To do this, you should first disassemble the container into its individual parts.
Dispose of the wilted bouquet carefully
Especially if the bouquets were intended as a gift for a special occasion, they are often decorated with decorative elements.
Colorful ribbons, glittering stickers, bows or small plastic figures should brighten up the bouquet.
These accessories often end up in the organic bin along with the flowers.
You can easily dispose of cut flowers in the organic waste bin.
However, the associated plastic decoration is not.

This is wrong and has unpleasant consequences for the environment, explains the
recycling and environmental service provider Alba
: The withered flowers serve as raw material for energy or compost.
In contrast, plastic decorations do not rot, making further processing more difficult.
Therefore, all of these accessories do not belong in the organic bin.
Only if bouquets are disposed of correctly can the individual materials be properly recycled.
According to Ökotest
, the components of the bouquet must
be disposed of individually:
Withered flowers belong in the organic bin.
Plastic wires or decorative elements go into the trash or recycling bin.
The transparent film in which many bouquets are wrapped is usually made of cellophane, which counts as packaging waste.
Therefore the film should end up in the yellow bag or bin.
If the flowers were wrapped in paper, this goes into the waste paper bin.

If there are no organic bins in your community, you can also dispose of the flowers in the residual waste.

Dispose of cut flowers in household waste instead of in the compost
Since commercial cut flowers are often contaminated with pesticides or otherwise treated, you should refrain from disposing of the plants in the compost in the garden, advises the
Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung
.
So that the toxic substances do not get into the fertilizer that is obtained from the compost, it is better to throw the bouquet away with household waste.

If you want to give a bouquet of flowers as a gift yourself, you can think about packaging waste when purchasing it and, for example, buy the bouquet without foil or paper around it.
Or you can pick a bouquet of wildflowers - these can then be safely disposed of in the compost.
