A doctor at the San José Hospital, in Paso de los Libres, was sentenced to
eight years in prison and disqualified for life from practicing medicine
after being found guilty of
sexual abuse
in which a young patient was the victim.
The man arrived free at the oral but not public debate but
was detained
as soon as the Court judge declared his criminal responsibility.
The ruling fell on the diagnostic imaging specialist
Gustavo Álvez Ledezma,
who was suspended as soon as the victim's complaint became known, in August 2022.
The prosecutor in the case, Daniela Di Tomaso, asked that the doctor be sentenced to ten years in prison and that he be detained immediately given the possibility that he fled to avoid the sentence.
In addition, she requested that the accused
be perpetually disqualified from practicing medicine.
Álvez Ledezma's defense, made up of lawyers Dionisio Velasco and Matías Almeida, sought acquittal alleging the absence of concrete evidence.
The trial judge, Marcelo Pardo, considered the crime of
sexual abuse with carnal access
proven and set an effective sentence of eight years in prison.
That is why he ordered the immediate arrest of Álvez Ledezma and his transfer to a penal unit.
The event occurred on
the afternoon of August 23, 2022,
when a young woman went to the San José Hospital to have an ultrasound.
According to the complaint she made at the Paso de los Libres Women's Police Station, the doctor in charge of her service made her come in and take off her clothes.
It was then that he, without her consent, abused her.
As soon as the case became known, the directors of the healthcare center decided
to remove Álvez Ledezma from his position
and sent the information to the Ministry of Public Health to resolve his employment situation.
On his social networks, the doctor details that he graduated from the National University of the Northeast (UNNE) and studied the specialty in diagnostic imaging at the University of Buenos Aires.
In addition, he details that he has been
a staff doctor at the San José Hospital
since 2005 and head of the imaging service at a clinic.
In October of last year, the Corrientes Justice convicted another doctor for the crime of sexual abuse.
Gerardo Alejandro Dahse
was sentenced to seven years in prison for having sexually abused a patient in his office in the provincial capital.
In addition, the Court disqualified him from practicing medicine and decided that he remain free until the ruling becomes final.

This year Dahse will have
to sit in the dock again,
since he has another prosecution but for a more serious crime: sexual abuse with carnal access.
Around 20 women reported on social media that they had suffered abuse from the doctor, but only two cases were prosecuted.
