Joe Biden praised Prime Minister Meloni's "leadership role in the G7 and in the European Union in support of Ukraine".
The White House reports this in a note on the bilateral meeting in Washington between the American president and the Italian prime minister.
Biden and Meloni "exchanged views on the objectives of the G7 during Italy's presidency, including continued support for Ukraine, sustainable development, food and energy security, the migrant crisis as well as cooperation on artificial intelligence and continued joint efforts in support of Partnership on global infrastructure and investment", the note continues.
The American president and the prime minister reaffirmed "their firm support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression" and discussed developments in the Middle East, including the importance of preventing an escalation at the regional level. Biden and Meloni reiterated the "their commitment to Israel's right to self-defense in line with international laws and underlined the urgent need to increase deliveries of humanitarian assistance to Gaza". Finally, the president and the prime minister discussed the upcoming G7 leaders' summit in Puglia and the NATO summit in Washington underlining "the vitality of transatlantic relations and their centrality in addressing global challenges".
