Could Covid make us less intelligent?
A new study, published this Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine, suggests in any case that our brain is not protected in the event of infection.
With impacts on our cognitive abilities, and therefore on our intelligence quotient (IQ).
Scientists from Imperial College London followed nearly 113,000 British adults who they asked to carry out, between August and December 2022, several exercises (memory, reasoning, attention, etc.).
Guinea pigs who had been infected but recovered in less than a month displayed the equivalent of 3 IQ points less compared to those who had not been contaminated, all other things being equal.
And this sometimes more than a year after catching Covid.
