Jorge Base, a 41-year-old man from Córdoba who had to undergo gallbladder surgery in a public hospital in his province, suffered an unusual and unfortunate event in recent days:
the doctors made the wrong procedure and gave him a vasectomy
, a surgery that men usually perform. done when they do not want to have children.
"They told him that he could also have children through insemination
," said his lawyer.
The case of malpractice occurred at the Florencio Díaz Provincial Hospital in the capital of Córdoba.
There, Jorge had gallbladder surgery scheduled for Tuesday, February 27.
But due to different circumstances beyond the control of the patient, the operation was rescheduled by the institution for the next day.
According to the testimony of Diego Larrey, his lawyer, the victim arrived at the hospital on Wednesday the 28th, as he had been instructed after the rescheduling, and entered directly through the guard.
Once there they made him come in and he went straight to the operating room.
"My client came in as a guard,
they didn't even ask him anything, they didn't take his information or anything
, they took him in like that, they put him on a stretcher and took him to the operating room," said the lawyer.
In the operating room, Jorge underwent surgery.
But not what he had planned.
"When he wakes up, a doctor says
'oh, but they had to operate on his gallbladder and they gave him a vasectomy,'

When asked about the possible reason for the confusion, he considered: "Supposedly it was because
on Wednesdays they did not operate on the gallbladder, those days they do vasectomies
. But there is the medical history so you can look, ask for ID because it was not the same person who I had taken care of him."
In the midst of the patient's state of shock, who could not believe what had happened, the doctors prepared Jorge again and took him back to the operating room, where they did perform what they had to do initially.
"They performed both operations on him, first the vasectomy, and
when he woke up he wanted to die
because they told him what operation they did and since the gallbladder operation was scheduled, they had to do it on the same day," Larrey added.
Jorge, for his part, spoke with

and said that they told him that at the time they operated on him, "they did not do gallbladder operations in the operating room" and that he only found out when "the doctor went to check how it had turned out." all".

As the man's legal representative explained, there was no one to take responsibility for what happened.

As the doctors explained to him, if he wanted to undergo a new intervention and try to reverse the procedure, the chances of success are minimal.
