SARA RATTARO, I AM MARIE CURIE (SPERLING & KUPFER PP 208, EURO 17.90)

The first woman to teach at the Sorbonne, twice a Nobel Prize winner - in 1903 for Physics together with her husband Pierre Curie and in 1911 for Chemistry - Marie Curie is told by Sara Rattaro in a fictionalized and widely documented story.

It's I am Marie Curie which will be released on March 5th by Sperling&Kupfer, in view of International Women's Day.

A novel in which Sara Rattaro, a much loved writer, winner of prizes such as the Bancarella and the Rapallo Carige, a graduate in biology and communication science, gives us the figure of a woman and a great scientist who remains an example of how women have had to fight to affirm their identity and their role in the world.

The book is also an invitation to reflect on the challenges that women still face today in the scientific field and in many other areas of society.

I am Marie Curie takes us to Paris in 1894 when Marie, immersed in research for her second degree in Mathematics, after having obtained one in Physics, she meets Pierre, a kindred spirit, capable of deciphering her complex mind.

An extraordinary union will be born and together they will explore the enigmas of the universe.

But Marie has been a particular woman since she was young: she rejects the destiny of a traditional wife and rejects the idea of confining herself within the home.

For her, the love of science is a traveling companion in the common dream, an obsession that guides her along an unprecedented path.

When she suddenly finds herself alone, forced to confront the hostility of the male-dominated and conservative scientific environment, she begins a battle to assert her identity.

Marie's life thus takes unexpected turns, testing her strength and her determination.

The scientist finds herself fighting against an era that struggles to accept female genius.

Author of novels received with great success and translated into nine languages such as Splendi Piu Che Pu (Rapallo Carige Prize 2016), Love Wearing (Literary Prize 2018) and A Simple Happiness, Rattaro directs, among other things, the Italian fiction series of Morellini Editore and the writing school 'The story factory' and is also the author of children's novels, published by Mondadori.
