Highlights: Yatir Winery has created a wine series called DAROM. Proceeds from the sale of the wine will go to the establishment of five therapeutic farms. The farms will provide a response to the evacuees of the south, the security forces and post-trauma victims who joined the circle of trauma. The wine is excellent, but the intention behind it is even better: financing therapeutic farms on the purity of the vineyards, for the evacuees from the south, the security forces and post-trauma victims

A wine went in, a good deed came out: we would probably recommend this wine to you even if there wasn't such an exciting story behind it, but when a good wine meets an even better intention, we have to share.

Let's start with the wine: a few years ago, the Yatir winery decided that, with all due respect to their fine wine, from the higher series, their winery was already large enough to have a more accessible series - and invented DAROM: a series that can serve as a great gateway to the winery's wines, even for those who who do not want to part with a very high amount.

But here's something else that happened a few years ago: the winery began to cooperate with 'Rimon Farms', an ecological agricultural farm in the northern Negev, which helps teenagers and post-traumatic victims with sustainable agricultural work, close to nature.

"There is something about the encounter with the silence of nature that succeeds in quieting the soul," says Yaakov Ben Dor, CEO of Yatir Winery, "The contact with the crops and the soil in general, and in particular the work in the vineyards, does wonders for the soul.

It's a healthy silence."

The initiative to establish therapeutic vineyards is the brainchild of the farm team, the winemaker Eran Goldwasser (Yitir Winery, "Drom") and the winery's team of agronomists and vintners, who helped the people of Havat Rimon to establish and operate a system of therapeutic wine farms and vineyards. System that by working in the vineyard it will be possible to respond to the rehabilitation process for trauma victims, as mentioned by connecting them to the spaces and the land.

"Eran Goldwasser, who has accompanied the farm for several years, guided them in everything related to the planting of the vineyards and these days they are even increasing the plantings with the aim of expanding the scope of the activity.

The cooperation stemmed from the beginning out of the desire to lend a hand out of social responsibility and help the farm's activities.

Of course, in light of the war and its consequences, the deepening of this cooperation is significant." Yaakov adds.

"We saw how important the social mobilization of these citizens for each other is in this war.

The farm indicates part of the new Israelite alliance that is being formed.

mutual empowerment.

It's not that we didn't have it before, but these days in particular we see how important mutual responsibility and involvement in action is.

It is no longer possible to conduct oneself in the "neighborhood" culture.

People are taking on more responsibility and reaching out in a private sense."

"After several years of a joint collaboration that was mostly under the radar, we thought it was the right and most appropriate time to raise awareness of this wonderful farm and the good they do for the general public as well."

The events of October 7 brought into the circle of trauma not only soldiers and other civilians but also people who worked directly on the farm.

"There were casualties among the volunteers, some were murdered from the staff caring for the kibbutzim, there were those who fell in the battles. Added to the cycle of trauma were evacuees from the siege, soldiers who returned from the front, and other civilians who were injured and in need of rehabilitation," says Ben Dor, "so that, in fact, after several years of joint cooperation that was mainly Under the radar, we thought it was the right and most suitable time to raise awareness of this wonderful farm and the good they do for the general public as well."

As part of the expansion of the donation scope of Yatir Winery, it was decided to produce a DAROM case for the south, part of the proceeds of which will contribute to the establishment of five therapeutic farms on Taharat Karmi Yain, which will provide a response to the evacuees of the south, the security forces and post-trauma victims who joined the circle.

And how is the wine?

"The choice to create this case is a natural connection that will give a little added value, tell the story of the farm and the entire south."

"The cooperation between us is long-term, which includes not only professional accompaniment, but also a financial contribution through the purchase of the case, but also the reception of the produce of the vineyards treated by the association to create our wines in the winery of both Yatir and "Drom" in the future as well. Our "Drom" brand From the beginning, it operates from vineyards in the south, and we felt that the choice to create this case was a natural connection that would give a little added value, tell the story of the farm and the entire south."

But with all due respect for volunteering, you are probably asking how is the wine?

Well, this is a good and simple wine, in the most positive sense of the word.

It doesn't pretend to be a great wine, the kind that graces wine coolers, but the red bottle, despite being accessible at the price, is much more of a wine that would once be called "table" in taste.

The rosé also manages to be complex enough to be interesting, but without eating the head: a wine that is fun to drink cold from the fridge even when it is on its own, but can be combined beautifully with first courses, cheeses and fruits.

Both wines will suit, for example, a meal that starts with salads and moves from them to meats.

In our case, we sampled the rosé next to light starters and the red next to casserole dishes (vegetarian and meat) - and both managed to fit nicely into the meal, without turning themselves into the main course - just the way we like it.

The DAROM case for the South includes: a bottle of 'Drom Adom 2022', and a bottle of 'Drom Rosa 2022'.
