Cut cucumbers don't last very long in the refrigerator.
However, with a simple trick you can prevent the ends from drying out.
Cucumbers are a standard vegetable in many households.
In this country, the cucumber season runs from June to September.
Since the vegetables are also imported from the Netherlands, Spain and Greece, you can buy them all year round in Germany.
Because cucumbers - unlike most other vegetables - are sensitive to cold, it is better not to store them in the refrigerator.
However, things look different if the cucumber has already been cut.
Cucumbers have a short shelf life in the refrigerator
To ensure they stay crisp for a long time, it is important to store cucumbers correctly.
Optimally at temperatures of twelve to 15 degrees, informs the
North Rhine-Westphalia consumer advice center
.
A basement or a dark corner in the pantry is best.
The vegetables can be stored under these conditions for about three weeks.
In the refrigerator, however, cucumbers only last a few days and quickly become soft and watery.

Nevertheless, you should put the cucumber in the fridge as soon as you have cut it open.
However, an annoying problem always arises: the end dries out and ends up in the trash - often with a large portion of cucumber.
In order to get to the juicy remainder, the shriveled piece must be removed.
Just like the peel, the cucumber flesh is too good to throw away.
A simple trick can prevent this.
All it takes are two toothpicks.
To do this, proceed as follows:
Cut off the first piece of cucumber.
Insert two toothpicks.
Now cut off as much of the remaining cucumber as you want to eat.
Then use the toothpicks to attach the beginning of the cucumber to the rest of the cucumber like a lid.
