"It's sad to see my words so seriously and instrumentally misunderstood by the Students' Union because my project, contrary to what is claimed, goes exactly in the direction of full integration that safeguards the learning times and quality of all students, without any ghettoization. In fact, I declared that , in the case of foreign children with significant deficits in Italian and mathematics, there can be two ways forward, also looking at the experiences of other European countries: temporary differentiated teaching, accompaniment to ordinary lessons, only of the Italian language and possibly mathematics, until an adequate alignment to the skills already acquired by the rest of the class; or compulsory afternoon strengthening courses.
I must also underline, as I have already stated, that these two hypotheses must first undergo the scrutiny of a broad comparison, with great attention to safeguarding school autonomy.
For this reason I believe that the observations of the UdS, expressed in gratuitously offensive tones, are very far from the reality of the facts, risking among other things to contribute to a harmful exploitation of a delicate topic such as the centrality of the student, of all students". Thus the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara regarding the projects for foreign students in schools.
