Roberto Cenati, Milanese president of the Milan ANPI since 2011, resigned in disagreement with the association's use of the word "genocide" in relation to Israel's military response against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
"Netanyahu's far-right government, after the ignoble attack by Hamas, carried out a bloodbath killing many people, including children and women - he underlined speaking on the telephone with ANSA -
but the term 'genocide' goes used with 'delicacy' because it is the scientifically planned extermination of a population".
"The words of the president of the Anpi of Milan leave me amazed. One of the watchwords for the great demonstration on March 9th is 'let's prevent genocide',
words used by the International Criminal Court.
Saying 'let's prevent' then means that we do not there is still genocide but there is danger of it happening."
Thus
the national president of the partisans' association, Gianfranco Pagliarul
o, comments to ANSA on the resignation of Roberto Cenati, presented because he disagrees with the use of the word "genocide" regarding Israel's military action in the Gaza Strip .
"The Anpi - explains Pagliarulo - is part of an alliance of associations which, after an extensive debate, has constructed a series of watchwords to give life to the great national demonstration on 9 March in Rome.
One of these is ' let's prevent genocide", the result of long reflection. These are words used by the International Criminal Court and, therefore, we have simply adapted to a common sense proposal. I would also like to underline that preventing means that there is not yet a genocide ongoing, but there is a danger of it happening."
"Cenati - continues the president of the Anpi - seems to me to be in extreme difficulty with its sections. But this is a Milan problem that I don't take issue with, given that we are a democratic association".
