Highlights: Town hall of Biscarrosse (Landes) has decided to close the town's beaches from this Saturday March 2. This is a consequence of the severe weather that has recently affected the region. The beaches must be closed again on March 9, with sand replenishment planned. Lake Biscorrosse is also prohibited from access, due to trees which threaten to collapse because they are weakened by the winds and the waterlogged soils. The erosion had not been seen since 2014, according to the local press.

Access to these Landes beaches will remain prohibited until further notice, reports France Bleu Gascogne. Such erosion had no longer been seen

“In view of the weather forecasts announced for this weekend, we inform you that the access to beaches and the banks of the north lake (Parking + cycle paths) remain closed to the public.

Thank you for your understanding and vigilance,” wrote the town hall on Facebook.

France Bleu Gascogne details that this closure will be effective until further notice.

According to the local press, such erosion had not been seen since 2014. “There is a combination of elements that we experienced ten years ago, with less sediment being deposited, tidal coefficients high and powerful currents,” the mayor of Biscarrosse Hélène Larrezet assured France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Lake Biscarrosse is also prohibited from access, due to trees which threaten to collapse because they are weakened by the winds and the waterlogged soils.

Still according to France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the beaches must be closed again on March 9, with sand replenishment planned.

“We adapt the calendar and volumes according to the winters.

This year, there will be re-fattening, larger in volume, every month until May,” Hélène Larrazet explained to France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
