Turnout at historic lows in Iran where, according to data from the IRNA agency, only 41% went to vote.
This is the highest abstention figure recorded in the Islamic Republic: the previous historic low was 42.5% in the 2020 parliamentary elections while in the previous 2016 elections the turnout was around 62% of those entitled to vote.
From the first data fundamentalists have a strong advantage
Official preliminary results of Iran's parliamentary elections show that 99 candidates have secured victory so far.
Among these, the fundamentalist candidates, who obtained 75 seats, have a large advantage while the independent candidates obtained 11 seats and the reformists 10 seats.
The official Irna agency writes it.
President Ebrahim Raisi won in the South Khorasan province in the elections to the Assembly of Experts, which yesterday were intertwined with the parliamentary elections.
A large number of reformists did not participate in the elections due to the disqualification of their candidates by the Guardian Council.
Former President Mohammad Khatami, in a rare move, did not vote yesterday.
Many people and activists, boycotting the elections, said on social media that the competition in the Iranian elections is "meaningless", as it occurs only between a few fundamentalist groups.
