- Official controls attest and confirm the absolute healthiness of imported durum wheat and its full compliance with community regulations on health and hygiene.
Italmopa-Associazione Industriali Mugnai d'Italia makes this known, based on the results of the first report of the joint control room on agri-food controls coordinated by Masaf, made known on 29 February.
Data which, according to the association, must stop misinformation on the topic.
"The quantity inspected - underlines Vincenzo Martinelli, president of the Italmopa Durum Wheat Mills Section - has so far concerned approximately 420 million kilos of imported durum wheat intended for human consumption and further checks at the ports of arrival were subsequently carried out by part of the supervisory and control authorities".
The results of the checks carried out, adds the president, "constitute first and foremost a guarantee for the milling industry, for which food safety constitutes a mandatory prerequisite in its supply strategies, but also a clear denial of recurring denigratory campaigns that conceal mere interests category behind the alleged defense of consumers".
Hence the president's invitation to the Administration, "with a view to dutiful transparency and reassurance of consumers, to provide for constant and meticulous monitoring of the quality of imported and national wheat, and the publication of the results found, placing thus an end to those systematic disinformation activities which no longer appear tolerable and which will, where necessary, be prosecuted to protect the interests of the category".
