A few dozen Lazio fans traveling to Munich for the Champions League match against Bayern sang fascist anthems and even a 'duce duce' chant, accompanied by Roman greetings.
The video was published by Repubblica.it.
The fans were filmed in the historic Hofbräuhaus beer hall in Munich, also famous because Hitler gave some speeches there.
"The images of Lazio fans cheering the Duce and waving Roman salutes are a disgrace
. They are mud on the team, on all the fans and on the city of Rome."
Thus the Sports Councilor of Rome Capital Alessandro Onorato in a note.
"For this reason - continues Onorato - without ifs or buts, I firmly condemn and express disdain for what can be seen in the video which is unfortunately going around the world in these hours. That stuff does not represent us but is also indicative of a bell of alarm, yet another, which must force all politicians to assume responsibility with respect to the attitude of unequivocal condemnation that is due to the darkest and most dramatic period in the history of our country. Any attempt at minimization or ambiguity fuels among some people the belief that positions other than anti-fascism are possible in Italy. This is not the case - concludes Onorato - Anti-fascism is the essential condition for being Italian. Those who do not recognize themselves must be placed on the margins".
