The "freedom of the press is fundamental for our democracy, as for any democracy. Which sees in our Constitution a clear, clear, indisputable protection, in the face of which there is an assumption of responsibility on the part of journalists: the loyalty, the independence of the information, freedom of criticism, respecting the personality of others, respect for the facts. But it is an indispensable element of our democracy, and I have tried many times to recall and underline this character of indispensability".
The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, underlined this when he received the Casagit leaders at the Quirinale.
Freedom of the press and of journalists represents "an indispensable role that is close to the hearts of the institutions, each called upon to protect it in their own competences and in their own spheres and, naturally, in their own responsibilities", adds the head of state.
