Colored books look great and sell out quickly.

Some buyers try to capitalize on eBay.

Criticism of this can be found on TikTok.

Rebecca Yarros is gradually storming the bestseller lists with her Fourth Wing series.

A special edition with a color cut, which retails for around 25 euros, was offered on various classifieds markets for many times as much.

For true book lovers who would have liked to have bought the book regularly but can only afford it at a higher price, this is absurd.

A Booktoker also vents about it on TikTok.

“Fourth Wing” with color cut for five times the price

The production costs for books have increased in recent months.

Various features, such as colorful endpapers, bookmarks or color cutting, cost extra and make the production of a book a certain amount more expensive.

Color-cut books in particular do very well on Instagram or TikTok.

Some book lovers also decorate their books themselves using brushes and paint.

Reader @chiaras.booktok recently vented her thoughts on TikTok.

For them and many other readers, it is impossible to offer a book for sale at inflated prices in a classifieds market such as eBay and hope for a good deal.

Chiara discovered the book “Fourth Wing” with color editing by Rebecca Yarros for 115 euros on various sites.

The edition with color editing was no longer available at the time of the video.

The book costs 25 euros in regular bookstores.

The TikToker is outraged that some are making additional business out of the hype surrounding the book, as she would have liked to read it herself.

She is sad that such books are bought away from other book lovers and then appear in classifieds for four to five times as much.

There have been around 200 comments on the video so far.

The majority agrees with the TikToker.

  • “It’s so unbelievably crazy what some people charge for it🫡, whether you have a color cut or not, you buy it because of the story”

  • “It's so crazy that people just charge €115 + SHIPPING!

Charge for a book even though it only costs €25 or so.

I mean color cutting is a beautiful thing..."

  • “I tried to get it, I also looked on eBay, but I'm a mother of 3 children.

    I can’t afford €80-120 for a book🤷‍♀️”

  • “I still remember the Harry Potter slipcase... It originally costs €120 and is offered on eBay for up to €600/700.

    Was really shocked.”

If the books are too boring for you, you can, like this artist, re-integrate them yourself.

And for books with a color cut, it makes sense to sort them with the book cut facing forward on the bookshelf.
