In the end Gasparri made a decision.
"I resign from the non-operational presidency of Cyberealm, a company that does not deserve rancorous and unmotivated attacks", he communicated in a letter to the president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa, closing the circle opened by Report last November, when the Rai broadcast put the spotlight on that the blue has presided over an IT security company since 2021, without ever revealing it to the offices of Palazzo Madama.
It appears to be a violation of the regulation which requires, after the parliamentary election, the communication of any additional positions.
The penalty for failure to inform can lead to the forfeiture of the office.
The news immediately creates a media fuss which the Upper House immunity committee throws water on.
At the end of an investigation, conducted by a subcommission led by Northern League senator Manfredi Potenti, he declared that the role of the FI group leader in Cyberealm is compatible with the role of senator because the company does not have relations with the public administration.
The same program Report, which this morning wrote on social media, informed about the resignation of the Forza Italia parliamentarian: "the resignation from the company confirms that Report was right. In the end even Gasparri had to surrender to the evidence of the facts".
The television program targeted the Council itself, guilty, we read in the note, of having taken decisions "for political reasons, without carrying out any investigation" and President La Russa accused of not having "initiated any disciplinary proceedings".
The 5 Star Movement's comment is immediate: "The affair - say the Five Star Movement - offended the institutions. Finally, after years of delay, he too understood how incompatible that role was with that of senator".
Gasparri's voice can be heard from Bucharest where he arrived to participate in the congress of the European People's Party (EPP): "It's not a surrender, the Senate council has confirmed the compatibility" he is keen to point out "Mine is a free choice" .
He then explains: "I didn't resign earlier to allow the Senate bodies to express themselves. A judgment that proved me right."
Finally he puts his sights on the 5 stars and the program that started it all.
"Report and the Grillini representatives continue to tell lies" claims the parliamentarian.
He promises "numerous complaints", "liars will be sued" and says he is awaiting the outcome "of the judgments against Rai programmes, some newspapers and vain individuals".
