Something for free!?
In the supermarket!?
Hundreds react to the legal trick of a Lidl customer who was able to access it twice within just a few days.
Tirschenreuth – You can often get something cheap in the supermarket, especially for people with keen eyes.
But free?
That rarely happens.
It's no wonder that a post in a "Too Good To Go" group (which is actually intended for rescue bags) on Facebook gets widespread attention: 500 likes and dozens of comments were collected in less than two days.
Customer reports about free plants at Lidl - and causes amazement
A Lidl customer, who says she is from the Upper Palatinate (Bavaria), reports: She was allowed to take a plant there for free twice within a week.
“On Saturday we got the lily for free and today we got the dracaena, both from Lidl,” she writes.
Now it is known that Lidl sells its cut flowers at half price on certain days.
But the fact that there is something there for free is new to many people.
The plant lover's information cannot be verified, but why should she have invented it?
Lidl gave these two plants away, the customer says.
"For free?
Do they just stand there and you can take them?
“I’ve never seen anything like that at Lidl,” is just one of many astonished questions.
The Lidl customer responds to these and others with details: “Yes, actually free.
They’ve probably been doing this for a while, but up to now I’ve always walked past the plants,” she writes.
And: “We have them on the shelf after the checkout where you can pack your purchases.
But before you 'pass' the theft check.” Exciting – and probably hardly known among consumers.
As well as the fact that a certain drink should never be left on the checkout conveyor belt.
Or that Kaufland rewards a closer look with a voucher.

There is great amazement about the free plants.
“I’ve never gotten anything for free,” “I’ve never seen it at Lidl,” “Wow, cool, I’d take it with me straight away,” and “Free?” the people in the group ask themselves.
“And what is wrong with the plants?
They look super fresh and healthy,” it also says.
Or: “It would be nice if all businesses did that.
But unfortunately for most people the route to the trash is the most convenient.” You can also guess how much the customer has saved.
One user complained that she bought “the left thing” for seven euros.
And that is quite an impressive price by discounter standards.
Others have already had similar experiences and also picked up free plants.
One person wrote: “I've had that before.
There were petunias behind the cash register.
Then I asked the saleswoman what about it?
She said, can you take yourself with you.
Of course I grabbed it.
I have a big garden.” It also says: “We often have tulips etc., which are always at the checkout counters by the windows” or “I’ve also managed to get hold of two blue hydrangeas”.

Alleged insider speaks out
Interestingly, someone with alleged insider knowledge also speaks out: a lady who - even if this cannot be verified - probably works at Lidl.
She writes: “Every Monday, when there is something left over from Saturday, they are at the front, after the cash registers.
And since a new business year begins for us in Lidl today, there was a lot to give away this morning." She explains that it's "like this all over Germany, yes. Well, since it's free, I usually eat everything away by 7:15 a.m.
Sorry, you know how people are.
I always say something when someone thinks they should take five pieces.
It’s very unfair then.”
By the way, one user contradicts: “I cannot agree across Germany.
We can't give this away in our district.” For plant fans, it's definitely worth taking a closer look in the future: Do you see any plants behind the cash register?
If so, don't just take them with you, but ask the cashier whether they are to be given away - so as not to accidentally become a thief.
Who knows: there may be a free opportunity waiting there.
Maybe even at other supermarket chains?
Lidl once made a laughing stock of itself with a plant sign.
In general, the discounter does not always cause enthusiasm, as this annoying incident shows.
