The Archaeological Park of Pompeii opens free entry to women on March 8th and, as per tradition, offers a special look at the other half of the sky, inaugurating this year the women's section of the Forum Baths complex
.
Here too, access for women will be free, as will the Villa di Poppea in Oplontis where thematic visits will take place "In the Villa of Poppea, between Women, Nymphs and Goddesses" organized by the Archeoclub of Torre Annunziata, with an exhibition of related objects to cosmetics and female beauty, curated by the Gruppo Storico Oplontino.
The visits will be held at 9.30 - 10.30 - 11.30.
Always used as a deposit for archaeological material, and therefore occupied by cumbersome shelves, the Baths - accessible to the public for the first time - revealed painted surfaces
, which until now had remained unknown due to thick concretions which had already obliterated their polychromy since the time of the excavation. of the building in 1823-24.
Thanks to the meticulous work of the restorers and with the help of a latest generation laser instrument, it was possible to remove the concretions and discover the beauty of the decoration of the first room, almost as if it were a new discovery.
Beneath a thick layer of limestone, a good part of the 4th style decoration was hidden, characterized by the alternation of colored panels, and above the small basin, painted in aqua green, there was a splendid decoration with vegetal elements and birds on a yellow background, a true "discovery" obtained through the use of laser technology.
The vegetal decoration also occurs in the support structure of the basin, while numerous graffiti spread across the walls - vessels rich in details, writings of various kinds and even a phallic drawing tell us about the life of those who used the spa.
The spa will be open to the public every day from 10.30am to 2pm (last entry 1.30pm) with entry every 30 minutes, for groups of up to 15 people at a time (11am and 1pm in English).
The cost of access, which includes an accompaniment with a presentation of the rooms, is 5 euros (in addition to the cost of entry to the Pompeii site).
Free for children under 6 years of age and for MyPompeii Card season ticket holders. Booking is recommended on the website www.ticketone.it.
