Inflation in the OECD area decreased from 6% in December 2023 to 5.7% in January 2024: this is what the OECD itself announces, specifying that inflation has fallen in two thirds of the countries belonging to the international body based in Paris.
The strongest declines (of one percentage point or more) are reported in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and Iceland.
In the G7, inflation fell to 2.9% in January after 3.2% in December, the lowest level since April 2021. Inflation, the OECD further underlines, has fallen in all G7 countries, with the exception in Italy a slight increase (0.8% in January versus 0.6% in December).
However, the Italian figure remains the lowest of the entire G7.
