What do you need to get through the main inspection at the TÜV as worry-free as possible?
A checklist with the most important information before the appointment:
Every car owner has to have an MOT sooner or later.
If you go to the appointment with your car unprepared, you could experience unpleasant surprises.
To ensure that this doesn't happen, here is a clear list from SÜDWEST24 with basic things that you can check and have ready before the general inspection (HU).
For a worry-free TÜV appointment.
Appointment at the TÜV – what is checked?
You can see when your next TÜV appointment is due by looking at the so-called TÜV sticker.
If they tell you that the HU is due in the next few weeks or months, you can prepare early on what you need to get or sort out before then.
Important and easy point to check off: You always have to have these things in your car, you can't drive without them and you can't get through the HU without them.
In addition to the basic things such as a warning triangle and vest, this also includes the car clutch, if removable, or car seats, if removable.
You also need the following documents:
The vehicle registration document – today the registration certificate Part I
Registration certificate Part II/vehicle registration document (if vehicle is not registered)
Evidence of technical changes to the car (for example through tuning)
The car needs to have an MOT – what needs to be done?
In addition to the things that have to be stored in the car, the vehicle itself should of course also have certain properties in order to get through the HU as smoothly as possible.
These are usually things that also have to be present in everyday traffic.
The license plates must be clearly visible and legible.
Lights, belts, windshield wipers and washers, as well as the horn should all work properly.
In addition to their functionality, brakes should be checked for rust and noticeable noises when operated.
The tires should have a minimum tread depth of 1.6 millimeters.
Interior and exterior mirrors and windshield should be intact.
The exhaust shouldn't be too loud.
The exhaust and vehicle should not leak any fluids such as oil.
Engine and airbag indicator lights should not be on continuously.
Preparation for TÜV appointment
Ideally, you prepare for the TÜV inspection with a workshop appointment in which all critical areas - from important objects in the car to the chassis - are checked and repaired if necessary.
However, if you have your HU carried out in a workshop, you can simply have minor defects repaired there.

But be careful – a new regulation at the HU could soon lead to higher TÜV costs.

But the degree of wear of the brake discs and loss of oil are also common reasons for diarrhea.
