Citizens' money creates financial security for those in need.
The payout is clearly regulated.
But when will it be transferred to the account?
Frankfurt – Citizens’ money is important support for people in financial emergencies.
But how does the payout actually work?
Recipients normally receive citizen's benefit for a period of 12 months.
In certain circumstances, such as fluctuating income or unreasonable accommodation costs, this support may be limited to 6 months.
Payment of citizen's benefit in Germany: When the money will come
When the approval period ends, applicants must submit an application for continued approval to check whether they are still eligible.

Citizen's allowance is usually paid out on the first working day of the month for that month to the recipient's specified bank account.
The clear regulations and punctual payment help recipients to better plan their financial obligations and enjoy a certain level of financial security.

Citizens' money in Germany: No bank account, what now?
Alternatively, recipients can also receive a check if they do not have a bank account.
You can redeem this at a Deutsche Post or Postbank payout point.
However, it is important to note that this may incur costs that will be deducted from the citizen's allowance.
Good to know:
Financial institutions are legally obliged to set up a basic account for every citizen, including homeless people, asylum seekers and tolerated people.
These are usually significantly cheaper than other account types and are often rewarded with a starting balance of 50 euros or more.
In order to receive citizen's benefit, recipients must be able to work and in need of help.
This means they are able to work but do not earn enough to cover their living expenses.
This is referred to as the subsistence minimum, i.e. the amount that a citizen must have available at least per month in order to be able to cover the costs of living.

Since July 1, 2023, the basic amount for single people has been 1,402.28 euros net per month.
But not only single people, but also people who live in a community with someone who is able to work can be entitled.
