Double strike in travel: Verdi and GDL called for a strike on March 7th and 8th.
Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn are affected.
What can passengers do?
Munich – It is not uncommon for travelers to use a combination of plane and train to reach their destination.
On Thursday, March 7th and Friday, March 8th, hundreds of thousands of passengers will be hit particularly hard - because both Lufthansa ground workers and Deutsche Bahn employees are on strike on these two days.
What options do those affected have?
Massive restrictions at Deutsche Bahn – trains with more seats in use
The effects of the double strike at Deutsche Bahn and Lufthansa are clearly noticeable.
Millions of travelers are affected by the effects in rail transport alone.
For the days of the strike, Deutsche Bahn announced in a statement that the strike would have a “massive impact on all German rail operations”.
Only around one in five Deutsche Bahn trains will run during the strike.

Deutsche Bahn announced that it would offer a basic service for passengers for long-distance, regional and S-Bahn traffic.
Deutsche Bahn explains: “In order to be able to bring as many people as possible to their destination, DB uses longer trains with more seats for long-distance transport.”
However, according to the company, long-distance passengers should reserve a seat early.
Rail strike at Deutsche Bahn: train connections for customers lifted
The regional rail offering varies greatly from region to region, which is why Deutsche Bahn recommends travelers to find out more about their connection 24 hours before they start their journey.
If customers have purchased their tickets up to and including March 4th for the period of the strike days, passengers can cancel at a later date and the train connection is accordingly cancelled.
The ticket is valid for the journey to the original destination, even with a modified route.
Seat reservations can also be canceled free of charge.
In long-distance transport, guests also have the opportunity to bring forward their journey and travel earlier.
Customers can also have their tickets refunded by Deutsche Bahn.
Deutsche Bahn has also set up a special hotline on 08000 99 66 33 for customer queries.
Lufthansa air traffic restricted – rebooking counter unmanned
Air traffic from Deutsche Lufthansa is also severely restricted.
Hundreds of flights are canceled at Munich Airport alone.
The airline explains in a statement: “Due to the strike, only around 10 to 20 percent of the Lufthansa Airline flight program can be operated on the two days in question.”
Customers can find out whether passengers are affected by the canceled Lufthansa flights by email or the Lufthansa app.

Lufthansa points out that the rebooking counters will not be staffed during the strike: “Please only come to the airport on March 7th and 8th if your flight has not been canceled.”
If customers want to cancel their trip, they can do so using Lufthansa’s chat assistant.
Passengers will then receive their full ticket price back.
Flights can also be rebooked using the assistant.
