The Greek Orthodox Church has called for the excommunication of deputies after the vote on same-sex marriage.

Religious people speak of a "demonic" decision taken by "immoral legislators" and call for parliamentarians to be ostracized, urging them to repent.
The Greek spiritual leader, Archbishop Ieronymos, proposed subjecting the vote to a popular referendum.
Meanwhile, the ecclesiastical authorities of Corfu have banned two parliamentarians from any religious rites.
