Holiday abroad: You should definitely have this insurance
The consumer advice center recommends thinking about insurance cover, especially when traveling abroad.
First and foremost, it is advisable to have
health insurance for travel abroad
.
People with statutory health insurance receive all the medical services they need throughout Europe.
However, return transport to Germany is not included.
In addition, additional payments, personal contributions, treatments in private clinics and travel outside the EU are usually not covered.
The protection provided by additional international travel health insurance applies worldwide and covers many services, including repatriation ordered by a doctor.
The cost of such insurance usually amounts to a few euros per year for individuals; the amount is slightly higher for families.
Visits to the doctor usually have to be paid for by yourself.
The amount will later be reimbursed by the insurance company with the original invoice.
In the event of a hospital stay, the reimbursement of costs should be clarified directly with the insurer, emphasizes the consumer advice center.
Travel preparations: What you should pay attention to when choosing travel cancellation insurance
In some cases,
travel cancellation insurance
can make sense - for example for expensive trips.
If the holiday is not started or is delayed, travelers must pay the cancellation costs to the organizer or hotel.
You will also have to expect costs in the event of a cancellation.
Appropriate insurance will then cover the cancellation, cancellation or rebooking costs.
To save costs, travelers should choose insurance without a deductible.

According to the consumer advice center, these could be reasons for withdrawal or termination:
Death in the family
Serious accidental injury
Unexpected serious illness
Complications of pregnancy or vaccine intolerance
Organ donation or reception
Significant damage to the insured person's property (e.g. fire)
Unexpected termination of work
New job after unemployment
Repeat exams for pupils and students
Insurance on vacation: What is important when booking a rental car
There are also
a few things to consider when
renting a car .
Since the insurance coverage depends on the holiday country, you may not be adequately covered by the motor vehicle liability insurance that is usually included with a rental car.
“If the claims of an injured party go beyond the often very low insured sums in motor vehicle liability insurance, you, as the person who caused the accident, have to pay the rest yourself,” says the consumer advice center.
Then the so-called “Mallorca policy” (EU-wide) or the “Traveller policy” (worldwide) can apply, which raises the insurance coverage to the German level.
So before you leave, check whether your car insurance already includes such a policy.
