But Pico de Gallo can do much more than just awaken wanderlust.
Fresh salsa is the heart of Mexican cuisine and consists of the absolute must-have ingredients for authentic taste.
So it's no surprise that the salsa
gives the perfect kick to countless dishes.
Whether it's chicken fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas or a chicken burrito bowl - it just wouldn't be the same without pico de gallo.
What exactly is pico de gallo?
Very simple: a fresh salsa made from finely chopped tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, cilantro and lime juice.
The preparation is very easy and can be done in just a few minutes.
The result is an aromatic, fruity and at the same time slightly spicy salsa that gives every dish that certain something.
Fun Fact: Literally translated, Pico de Gallo means something like “cock’s beak”.
However, it is not known where the name comes from.
For a Mexican Pico de Gallo you only need a few ingredients:

2 vine tomatoes, diced
0.5 red onion, diced
1 jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
3 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
0.5 tsp salt
0.25 tsp pepper

Preparing the Mexican tomato and onion salsa is quick:
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
Let it steep for ten minutes – done!
Easy Tasty Tip:
If you don't like coriander, you can also replace the herb with flat-leaf parsley.
