"As March 15th, World Eating Disorders Day, approaches, we wanted to organize a moment of discussion between experts and associations starting from the bill we have presented for the prevention and treatment of eating disorders. Eating disorders, in their various expressions which characterize them, represent the most widespread pathology in Western society in the last twenty years and require legislative intervention to ensure resources and tools for prevention".
This was announced in a note by Democratic Party senators Ylenia Zscopio, first signatory of the bill 'Provisions on the prevention and treatment of eating disorders', and SandraZampa, leader of the PD group in the Senate's Health, Labor and Social Policies Committee.
On March 12, at 3 pm, in the Sala Zuccari of Palazzo Madama, the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, the deputy director of the Corriere della Sera Fiorenza Sarzanini, author of the book 'Affamati d'amore', the coordinator of the master's degree course in Nursing Sciences and midwives from the Sant'Orsola hospital in Bologna, Marcello Lanari, the director of Dietetics and clinical nutrition at the Niguarda hospital in Milan, Ettore Corradi, and the head of the Center for treatment and research on eating disorders of the ASL of Lecce Caterina Renna.
The Network of middle school students, the University Union and the main associations dealing with eating disorders in Italy have joined.
"The initiative - explain the Democratic Party senators - has the objective of discussing with experts and associations the bill of the Democratic Party group in the Senate, which is already under discussion in the Tenth Commission, to arrive at a legislative offer that is able to hold together the medical aspect and the patients' point of view. We are grateful to the secretary Elly Schlein not only for having accepted our invitation but above all for having confirmed in this way her attention to a delicate issue, which sees young people and families too often left alone to fight , without the necessary response on the territories".
