Citizens' money supports people in financial need.
The calculation and payment are clearly regulated.
But how exactly?
Munich – Support from citizens’ money is important for people in financial difficulties.
But how does the payout actually work?
As a rule, citizen's benefit is granted for 12 months.
However, there are situations in which support is limited to 6 months, for example if income fluctuates or accommodation costs are too high.
The payment of citizen's benefit is clearly regulated in Germany.
But how exactly?
The
Federal Employment Agency
provides answers: “You will usually receive your citizen’s allowance for that month on the first working day of a month to the bank account you specified.
You don’t have to be an account holder yourself.”

Entitlement to citizen's benefit: The approval period can vary from person to person
That's a good thing, because the clear rules and punctual payment help recipients plan their financial obligations better and enjoy a certain level of financial security.
After the approval period has expired, applicants must submit an application for continued approval to check whether they are still entitled to the monthly social benefit.
You can submit this application online or by post.
Alternatively, there is an option to receive a check if there is no bank account.
This can be redeemed at a Deutsche Post or Postbank payout point.
However, it should be noted that costs may arise that will be deducted from the citizen's allowance.
Good to know:
Financial institutions are legally obliged to set up a basic account for every citizen, including homeless people, asylum seekers and tolerated people.
These are usually significantly cheaper than other account types and are often rewarded with a starting balance of 50 euros or more.

When do you get citizen's money?
The subsistence level regulates eligibility
In order to receive citizen's benefit, the recipients must be able to work and in need of help.
This means that they are able to work but do not earn enough to cover their living expenses.
People who live in a community of need with someone who is able to work can also be entitled.
This minimum amount is defined as the subsistence minimum, which is intended to cover monthly living costs.
Since July 2023, the basic amount for single people has been 1,402.28 euros net per month.
When submitting the application, the applicant's income and assets are checked.
They may have to first use their own resources before receiving financial support.
All information about applying and the exact requirements can be found on the
employment agency
website .
