Speaking to India Today TV, Ravneet Singh's family said he and another man named Vikram obtained tourist visas by paying 11 lakh rupees to an agent, who promised them jobs.
The two arrived in Russia and were caught by the local police when they went on a tour.
The family also claimed that Russian forces arrested the two men and handed them over to army officers, who forcibly recruited them into the army to fight in Ukraine, during the war.
