Oetker concerned: Patulin can cause these symptoms

According to the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, patulin is considered a neurotoxin.

The following symptoms are possible:

  • Vomit

  • Digestive disorders (inflammation of the stomach lining including bleeding)

  • In some cases, bleeding into the kidney, spleen or liver

Customers of discounters can return affected items to the respective branches.

For example, Lidl is taking back smoothies affected by the recall in all Lidl branches.

The purchase price will therefore be refunded even without presentation of the receipt.

At the end of 2023, a True Fruits brand smoothie was recalled.

The background here was incorrect product labeling.
